An auto painter, also known as an automotive refinish technician, is responsible for refinishing vehicles, applying paint, and restoring their appearance. They work in automotive repair shops, collision centres, or manufacturing facilities where they prepare surfaces, match paint colours, and apply paint coatings to vehicles. Auto painters possess a keen eye for detail, colour matching skills, and expertise in various painting techniques.

Responsibilities:

1. Surface Preparation: Prepare vehicle surfaces for painting by sanding, cleaning, and removing rust, dirt, and old paint. Fill dents, scratches, and other imperfections using body fillers and putties. Mask or tape off areas that are not to be painted, such as windows, trim, and mirrors.
2. Colour Matching: Match paint colours to the vehicle’s original colour using colour charts, computerized paint-matching systems, or manual mixing techniques. Adjust paint formulas to achieve an accurate colour match and blend adjacent panels seamlessly.
3. Paint Application: Apply primers, sealers, basecoats, and clearcoats to vehicle surfaces using spray guns, brushes, or other application methods. Ensure even coverage, smooth finishes, and proper paint adhesion. Follow manufacturer guidelines and recommended drying times between coats.
