As a 2nd Officer on a Chemical Tanker Vessel, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the ship. Here is a job description outlining the responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the position:

  1. Navigation and Watchkeeping: You will be responsible for navigating the vessel safely by planning and executing the ship’s passage. This includes monitoring and interpreting navigational charts, maintaining a proper lookout for potential hazards, and adhering to international regulations and company procedures while on watch.
  2. Cargo Operations: Your role will involve overseeing the loading, stowage, and discharge of cargo, particularly chemical substances. This includes ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, monitoring cargo tanks and systems, and coordinating with the Chief Officer and shore personnel during cargo operations.
  3. Safety and Emergency Preparedness: You must be knowledgeable about safety procedures and emergency response protocols. This involves conducting safety drills, maintaining firefighting and lifesaving equipment, and participating in safety meetings to promote a safe working environment.
  4. Documentation and Record Keeping: You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records and documentation related to navigation, cargo operations, safety drills, and other activities. This includes preparing reports, logbooks, and required paperwork as per company policies and international regulations.
  5. Bridge Team Management: As a 2nd Officer, you may be assigned the responsibility of managing the bridge team during your watch. This involves coordinating and supervising the duties of the deck crew, ensuring effective communication, and promoting a cohesive and efficient working environment.
  6. Communication and Reporting: You will maintain effective communication with the ship’s crew, the shore-based management team, and external stakeholders. This includes reporting navigational and operational information, maintaining regular radio contact, and promptly notifying the Master or relevant authorities in case of any incidents or emergencies.
  7. Environmental Compliance: You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and implementing measures to prevent pollution. This includes overseeing ballast water management, waste disposal procedures, and implementing the ship’s environmental management plan.
  8. Training and Development: As a senior officer, you may assist in training and mentoring junior officers and crew members. This involves sharing knowledge, providing guidance on safe practices, and promoting a culture of continuous learning and professional development.

Qualifications

  • 2nd Mate – Chemical Tanker Vessel – 4 Mos Contract
  • Experience 2nd Mate on Board Chemical Tanker Vessel Is Required, With Valid, Complete & On Hand Documents / Medically Fit / Fully Vaccinated
