Job Description:

An aircraft sheet metal technician, also known as an aircraft sheet metal mechanic or technician, is a skilled professional responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and fabrication work on the sheet metal components of an aircraft. Their role involves working with various types of sheet metal, such as aluminium, steel, and titanium, to ensure the structural integrity and safety of the aircraft.

Here are the key responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the role of an aircraft sheet metal technician:

  1. Structural Repairs: Aircraft sheet metal technicians repair damaged or corroded metal structures on the aircraft. This includes fixing dents, cracks, and punctures in the fuselage, wings, control surfaces, and other structural components.
  2. Sheet Metal Fabrication: They fabricate and shape sheet metal parts and components using specialized tools and equipment. This may involve cutting, bending, riveting, welding, and forming sheet metal to meet precise specifications.
  3. Inspection and Evaluation: They inspect aircraft structures to identify any signs of damage, wear, or fatigue. They use visual inspections, non-destructive testing techniques, and measuring instruments to assess the condition of the sheet metal components.
  4. Blueprint Reading: Aircraft sheet metal technicians read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals to understand the dimensions, tolerances, and assembly procedures for sheet metal components.
  5. Installation and Assembly: They install and assemble sheet metal parts onto the aircraft, ensuring proper fit, alignment, and fastening. This includes installing panels, fairings, access doors, and other external or internal sheet metal components.
  6. Corrosion Prevention: They apply protective coatings, sealants, and treatments to prevent corrosion and ensure the longevity of the sheet metal components. They may also perform regular inspections and maintenance to identify and address any corrosion issues.
  7. Documentation and Records: Aircraft sheet metal technicians maintain accurate records of work performed, including repairs, inspections, and modifications. They document any findings, actions taken, and parts used for future reference and regulatory compliance.
  8. Collaboration and Communication: They collaborate with other technicians, engineers, and maintenance personnel to coordinate repair or fabrication tasks. They may also communicate any significant findings or issues to ensure proper resolution.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 year(s) of working experience is required.
  • Candidates must be a Bachelor’s / College Degree holder in Engineering(Aviation/Aeronautics/Astronautics) or similar fields.
  • Related Engineering Certifications with relevant Aerospace experience
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of diversified aviation sheet metal experience,
  • Requires a minimum 2 years’ experience in Aviation industry.
