Job Description:

A plastic moulder, also known as a plastic injection moulding technician, is a skilled professional who specializes in the production of plastic components using plastic injection moulding machines. Plastic moulding is a manufacturing process that involves injecting molten plastic material into a mould cavity, allowing it to cool and solidify to produce a wide range of plastic products.

Key Responsibilities of a Plastic Moulder:

  1. Mould Setup: Plastic moulders prepare the moulding machine for production by installing and setting up the moulds. This includes attaching the mould to the machine, aligning it correctly, and ensuring proper clamping.
  2. Material Preparation: Plastic moulders handle and prepare the plastic materials used in the injection moulding process. This involves measuring and mixing raw plastic resins or pellets, and properly loading them into the hopper of the moulding machine.
  3. Machine Operation: Plastic moulders operate the injection moulding machine, which involves setting and adjusting various parameters such as temperature, pressure, and cycle time. They monitor the machine during the production process, ensuring smooth operation and addressing any issues that may arise.
  4. Quality Control: Plastic moulders perform visual inspections and quality checks on the produced plastic components to ensure they meet the required specifications. They may use measuring instruments, such as calipers or gauges, to verify dimensions and perform quality tests according to established procedures.
  5. Troubleshooting: When encountering issues or defects in the production process, plastic moulders troubleshoot and identify the root cause. They make adjustments to machine settings, moulds, or processing conditions to resolve the problems and maintain production efficiency and quality standards.
  6. Maintenance and Repair: Plastic moulders perform routine maintenance tasks on the injection moulding machine, such as cleaning, lubrication, and replacing worn-out or damaged components. They may also troubleshoot and repair minor machine issues or collaborate with maintenance technicians for more complex repairs.
  7. Mold Changeovers: Plastic moulders are responsible for changing moulds when transitioning between different products or designs. This involves removing the existing mould, cleaning the machine, and installing the new mould, ensuring proper alignment and functionality.
  8. Safety and Compliance: Plastic moulders prioritize safety in their work environment. They follow safety protocols, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain compliance with relevant occupational health and safety regulations.
  9. Documentation and Record Keeping: Plastic moulders maintain accurate production records, documenting key parameters, machine settings, and any issues or modifications made during the production process. This information helps track production efficiency and facilitates troubleshooting if needed.
  10. Continuous Learning: Plastic moulders stay updated with advancements in plastic moulding technology, techniques, and materials. They may attend training programs or workshops to enhance their skills and knowledge in plastic injection moulding.
